    Question

hi. i have a super 8 projector with a blown bulb. and i have a good bulb. BUT i can't figure out how to remove the old bulb. it doesn't want to twist out like regular light bulbs and i'm afraid i'll shatter it by pressing too hard. how do i get the thing out? (and the new one in?)
it's a pretty standard projector, i think. similar to another i have (the bulb is positioned/installed the same way).

    what's the trick?!
    thanks!

Usually the projector bulbs have two pins...you basically push the bulb in or pull it out. Sometimes you have to shift it (left, right, up or down) to unlock it.
Look at the design of your new bulb and try guestimate from that.

    Good luck

    scott,

    thanks for the tip.
i gave it a try, but the bulb just won't budge in any direction whatesoever, and i see no pins.

the "new" bulb's currently in another projector, so looks the same (and is also stuck).

they are both locked in by some sort of metal piece that looks like a crown and has lots of spikes or claws gripping the bulb at its base.

    does this sound familiar?

    thanks,
    rebecca

My projector has a scheme that's quite similar to this one. There is a steel bracket that holds the bulb in place which is hinged inside the projector, yet is locked at one and into a slot. When you gently remove this end from it's locked position and pull it out, it will actually pivot out and push the bulb out of the socket.

Remember though, do not actually handle the bulb portion of the projection lamp (touching the reflector is OK). This gets extremely hot and the impurities you leave behind can cause the glass to shatter after you turn it on.

I'll bet this guy can help you out:
